Dare to delve into the mysteries of the deep earth on a two-day, one-night expedition to LY SON, Vietnam’s majestic volcanic archipelago. This is the “Challenge Journey,” where you step into the role of a “Geologist,” tasked with collecting five precious “Lava Fragments” to decode the dramatic history of an island forged by five ancient, now-extinct volcanoes.

The adventure, available for just $55 (Tour Code: LS2N1D), begins at CANG SA KY Port, where your first mission immerses you in the island’s proud heritage, linking you to the legendary fleet that established sovereignty over HOANG SA. Arriving at DAO LON (Big Island), the journey immediately delves into the unique terroir of the “Garlic Kingdom.” Your palate is put to the test with Goi toi Ly Son (Ly Son Garlic Salad)—a culinary riddle whose “meat” you must identify—to secure the “Taste of Earth” fragment.

The quest continues through the afternoon, scaling the highest point of the island: DINH NUI THOI LOI. This peak, itself an ancient crater, demands a photo check-in at the sovereignty flag pole and the location of the island’s sole freshwater lake. Following the climb, you will venture to HANG CAU, where the “Memory of the Waves” Side Quest requires you to photograph the million-year-old sedimentary grooves carved by the relentless sea. Day one culminates at the iconic CONG TO VO (To Vo Arch), waiting for the magical moment when the setting sun aligns perfectly with the arch’s basalt opening, unlocking the “Sunset Arch” fragment.

Day two shifts focus to the pristine aquatic world. Begin before dawn at HAI DANG MU CU (Mu Cu Lighthouse) on the eastern side of DAO LON, the island’s best spot to witness the sunrise, a challenge confirmed by livestreaming the moment the sun emerges from the sea. Then, a short canoe ride takes you to DAO BE (Little Island), a true paradise. Here, the final fragment awaits in the “Coral World” mission, requiring you to capture underwater photos of the vibrant coral and marine life from a fisherman’s traditional basket boat. The journey concludes back on DAO LON with a contemplative visit to CHUA HANG (Hang Pagoda), a sanctuary carved deep into a seaside volcanic cave. Your final task involves using your accumulated XP to purchase local specialties like the renowned Toi co don (Single-clove Garlic) and Keo guong (Mirror Candy). Succeed in collecting all five fragments and achieving over 500 XP, and you will earn the ultimate title: “Lord of the Volcanic Island.”

Itinerary

DAY 1

Morning: Conquering the Waves – “Sea Route Pass”

07:30: Assemble at SA KY Port (QUANG NGAI).
Startup Mission: Activate the App to receive the “Sea Route Pass.” You must find the name of the valiant troop that established sovereignty over HOANG SA in the past to receive the first map piece. 100 XP
09:00: The high-speed boat arrives at LY SON Port (DAO LON – Big Island).
Mission 1: “Flavor of the Garlic Kingdom”.
- Location: Eateries in the port area.
- Challenge: Enjoy the Goi toi Ly Son (Ly Son Garlic Salad). You must guess which part of the garlic plant the tender white “meat” in the dish is. (Hint: Only available during harvest season from October to February).
- Reward: Lava Fragment No. 2 – “The Taste of Earth.” 50 XP

Afternoon: Conquering the Ancient Volcanic Crater

14:00: Mission 2: “THOI LOI Peak”.
- Destination: DINH NUI THOI LOI – the highest volcanic peak on the island.
- Challenge: Take a check-in photo at the sovereignty flag pole and locate the only freshwater lake on the peak (originally an extinct volcanic crater). Reward: 50 XP
16:30: Move down to HANG CAU.
Side Quest “Memory of the Waves”: Search for the million-year-old sedimentary grooves on the cliff face of HANG CAU, eroded by seawater, and take a photo using the “Giant” perspective to receive 50 XP.
17:30: Mission 3: “Sunset Arch”.
- Location: CONG TO VO (To Vo Arch).
- Challenge: Wait for the moment when the setting sun “drops” perfectly into the hole of the lava rock arch to take a photo that unlocks fragment number 3. Reward: 100 XP.

DAY 2

Morning: Sunrise on the “Dragon’s Tail”

05:00: Mission 4: “MU CU Light”.
- Location: HAI DANG MU CU (Mu Cu Lighthouse) (East of DAO LON).
- Challenge: This is the best place to watch the sunrise on the island. You must livestream or record a 15-second clip of the moment the sun emerges from the sea for the system to confirm completion. Receive “Sunrise Fragment” and 100 XP.
08:30: Travel to DAO BE (An Binh Commune) by canoe (approx. 15 minutes).
- Mission 5: “Coral World”. Reward: 150 XP
- Challenge: Take a fisherman’s basket boat out to the coral diving area. You must use a waterproof phone case to photograph a cluster of coral or a marine creature beneath the clear water to collect the final fragment.

Afternoon: Farewell of the Flotilla

13:00: Return to DAO LON, visit CHUA HANG – a pagoda located deep inside a volcanic rock cave near the sea.
14:30: Specialty Shopping: Use XP to purchase specialties: Toi co don (Single-clove Garlic), Keo guong (Mirror Candy), or dried seafood (Muc mot nang – Sun-dried Squid)… at the designated stalls in the port market. If you collect all 5 fragments and achieve over 500 XP, you will receive the title “Lord of the Volcanic Island.”
15:30: Board the ship back to the mainland, concluding the volcanic exploration journey.
